Jehoaida was Joash’s uncle and also the chief priest who taught and trained Joash .
Jehu murdered Judah’s King Ahaziah. When Ahaziah’s mother (Athaliah) saw that her son had been killed, she became consumed with power and killed the remaining members of the royal family—thinking she had established herself as a queen without a rival. But without her knowledge, Jehoiada’s wife saved one-year-old Joash, one of Ahaziah’s sons, by stealing him away and hiding him in the temple. Six years later, Jehoiada overthrew Athaliah and restored Joash to his rightful throne.
Jehoiada accomplished this by arming the other temple workers with spears and shields that David had placed in the temple (2 Chronicles 23).
JEHOIADA Priest Who Helped King Joash Jehoiada continued to advise young King Joash for the rest of his life, even arranging his marriages to two women. He and Joash also made arrangements to repair the temple, which had fallen into disrepair under the rule of Athaliah (2 Chronicles 23).
Unfortunately, after Jehoiada died, Joash turned to idolatry and even killed Jehoiada’s own son, Zechariah, who had prophesied against Joash’s wickedness.
